International Warmbloods
International Warmbloods are offering the first National Dressage Futurity open to all warmbloods and warmblood crosses.

Futurities are quite simple. Each owner pays a nomination fee when the horse is young (typically the younger the horse is the less you pay). Then the nomination fees are combined into a prizepool, the winning horse receives the total prizepool.

The Australian National Dressage Futurity allows any owner of any warmblood or warmblood cross to nominate. The prizemoney is split into two; half is awarded to the Champion or Reserve Champion (if the Champion has not been nominated) of the Preliminary class and the other half is awarded to the Champion or Reserve Champion (if the Champion has not been nominated) of the Novice class at the Australian National Dressage Championships. If neither the Champion or Reserve Champion have been nominated for the futurity then half the money is paid to the highest placed futurity nominated horse and the other half is returned to the prizepool for the next years futurity.

Currently we are accepting nominations for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Futurity.

Futurities provide access to excellent prizemoney for a small outlay. Obviously the more horses in the futurity the higher the available prizepool but on the other hand the less horses entered the higher your chance of winning!

The prizepool for the 2012 Championships is already set at a minimum of $4,000 but we expect this figure to go much higher.

Typically a percentage of each nomination is designated for administration of the futurity and the remainder goes directly to the prizepool. However as this is a new scheme we are offering 100% of all nomination fees for the 2011 Championships to go directly into the prizepool. No administration fees at all!

For the 2012 & 2013 Futurities 90% of all nomination fees will go directly to the prizepool, with the remaining 10% going to marketing, advertising and administration of the Futurity.

If we can get enough horse owners involved in this scheme we have already been assured of corporate sponsorship to boost the prizepool considerably. This relies on you though. If this futurity is well supported we could very soon see minimum prizepools of $20,000 being offered to futurity winners. This would be great for our sport as a whole and clearly a welcome sight for owners and riders.

Futurities in other horse sports are typically well supported by breeders, stallion owners and studs. Obviously being responsible for the breeding of a Futurity winner offers great promotional opportunities for studs and stallion owners. To increase the chances of having a Futurity winner many studs / breeders nominate all their progeny before they are sold. This is possible in the Australian National Dressage Futurity as all nominations stay with the horse and hence ownership is completely transferable. This is also the least expensive time to nominate - as the nomination fee increases as the horse gets older. For example horses currently under 3 years of age and being nominated for the 2013 Futurity can enter the Futurity for a single payment of $100.

Futurity payments are made in monthly installments which you can stop at any time (however the horse is only eligible if all payments have been made).

All nominated horses will be listed on this site a minimum of 45 days prior to the competition being held. No new nominations will be taken in the final 45 days (6 weeks). New nominations received in the final 4 months will be a subject to a surcharge (which goes into the prizepool).

2011 Futurity
(prizemoney to be awarded based on the results of the Australian National Dressage Championships 2011)

Nomination fee: 10 monthly installments of $30. You can choose to stop paying into the prizepool at any point during this time however in order for your horse to be eligible to win the Futurity prizemoney, a total of $300 must have been paid into the prizepool prior to the end of September 2011.
Prizemoney: 100% of nomination fees will go into the prizepool.
Awarded to: The total is split between two classes - Half is awarded to the owner of the Champion or Reserve Champion (if the Champion has not been nominated) of the Preliminary class; the other half is awarded to the owner of the Champion or Reserve Champion (if the Champion has not been nominated) of the Novice class at the 2011 Australian National Dressage Championships. If neither the Champion nor the Reserve Champion have been nominated for the futurity in any one class, then half the money is paid to the highest placed futurity nominated horse and the other half is returned to the prizepool for the next years futurity.
Details: The horse can be any age. The horse must be a warmblood or warmblood cross but does not need to be registered with a breed society. It is the owners responsibility to ensure the horse qualifies to compete at the National Championships. Any horse not qualified or not able to compete for whatever reasons forfeits all monies paid (ie their money remains in the prizepool for other eligible horses).

Details of the payment schedule for the 2012 and 2013 Futurities will be available very soon. Fill out the poll below to have your say on the nomination free for the 2012 and 2013 Futurities.
